What is Optiphen Plus

Optiphen plus is a natural broad spectrum preservative that provides effective protection against bacteria, yeast, fungi and mold. Optiphen Plus is similar to Optiphen but has the addition of sorbic acid which helps lower pH and boost its preserving capabilities, particularly against yeast, fungi and mold. It is also more suited for low pH products, making it a great option for formulations that include acidic ingredients. Optiphen Plus is both paraben-free, formaldehyde-free and vegan.

How to use Optiphen Plus

Optiphen Plus is best suited for low pH products (acidic) as it is only effective up to a pH of 6. This is particularly useful for chemical exfoliation formulations (e.g. products that contain Salicylic acid) that need to maintain a low pH. Optiphen Plus also offers broad spectrum coverage and is therefore suitable for emulsions, such as creams, lotions and conditioners. However, Optiphen Plus is not recommended for use in anhydrous products (e.g. body butters and balms), and should instead be substituted with Optiphen.
